"LEQUEUX" means "Cook" in Medieval French. However it does not apply to all cooks, but only to the Chef of the Royal Kitchen. The "Queux" was not only in charge of the king's dinners but also of the security and the good health of the King and the Royal Family. The only use of this word, which remains in Modern French is "Maître-Queux" that applies only to outstanding chefs.
